It was a historic and joyful occasion in Umuye, Ihechiowa, as the community gathered in large numbers—accompanied by musical groups and traditional drummers—to welcome Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, for the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole, the first ever in the community.

For decades, residents of Umuye have longed for access to clean water. Several attempts by past leaders and organizations to drill a borehole in the area had failed. However, that jinx was finally broken by Hon. Ibe, whose commitment ensured the successful completion of the life-changing project.

In their remarks, community members expressed deep gratitude, recounting how previous efforts to provide potable water had ended in disappointment. “Many have tried, but none succeeded—until Hon. Ibe came,” said Okiyi Emeka Okpo, with visible joy.

Addressing the people, Hon. Osonwa thanked the community for their continued support, stating that no part of his constituency would be left behind. “Umuye is a part of this constituency, and you will continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he assured.

The Ezieogo of Umuye, Ezieogo Martins Otada, thanked Hon. Ibe for fulfilling his promise and pledged the community’s support toward his reelection. Also speaking, the Autonomous King of Umuye Community, His Royal Highness, Eze Okoro Livinus lauded the project as the first meaningful government intervention in over 24 years.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Osonwa lamented the deplorable state of the road leading into Umuye and assured the people that steps would be taken to improve its condition. While emphasizing that his core duty is legislation, he promised to push for at least a temporary grading of the road to make it motorable.
