Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has responded sharply to recent jibes from Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, and activist Deji Adeyanju over his one-term presidency vow. Obi maintained that his integrity remains intact, stating he has never been mentally evaluated nor sworn any oath in a shrine.

Obi’s rebuttal, released on Sunday, August 3, 2025, through a statement by Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), addressed two indirect attacks: Adeyanju’s remark that even a shrine oath wouldn’t make voters believe Obi, and Soludo’s comment on August 2 that any one-term pledge requires psychiatric scrutiny. Obi argued that honoring such a vow aligns with constitutional values, not mental instability.
He emphasized his commitment to transforming Nigeria’s economic structure. “If making such a promise qualifies me for psychiatric evaluation,” Obi said, “then we may as well question the mental fitness of those who framed our Constitution.” He reaffirmed his resolve to drive Nigeria’s growth through production, agriculture, technology, and manufacturing.
