On Thursday, June 19, 2025, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, arrived at the Senate to present the state’s ₦1.48 trillion budget before the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Emergency Rule in Rivers State. Ibas was accompanied by key officials, including members of the state’s economic team.
The hearing follows the Senate’s reaffirmation of its commitment to safeguard the interests of Rivers State residents, weeks after President Bola Tinubu declared emergency rule in the state on March 18, 2025. The committee is tasked with ensuring that the emergency administration does not shortchange the people of Rivers State.
Details of the budget discussions are ongoing, with the Senate expected to scrutinize the proposed allocations to address the state’s needs under the current emergency framework.
