Rivers crisis: CSO orders IGP to arrest and prosecute 27 lawmakers within 24 hours.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, has been given 24 hours to arrest and prosecute the 27 Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. According to the Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy, a civil society organisation, those who defected are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and should be arrested and prosecuted. The lawmakers were charged with conspiracy to commit treasonable felony, according to the Centre. 27 members of the Rivers Assembly defect to APC.

It is alleged that twenty-seven members of the House of Assembly for Rivers State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Assembly members that supported former governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Federal Capital Territory's (FCT) minister, are the ones who deserted. While the Assembly complex was in session on Monday, the state legislators dissented. Four of the House's thirty-two members are reportedly loyal to Governor Siminialayi Fubara, while the remaining members support Governor Wike.
