The Ndigbo For Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum, NDI-ABAT, has declared that former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, cannot defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential Election, citing what it described as the prevailing national political realities.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 28, 2026, the organisation urged Peter Obi to recognise the political circumstances ahead of the 2027 election and avoid what it described as political calculations that may not serve the long-term strategic interests of Ndigbo and the Southeast.
NDI-ABAT said the 2027 presidential contest would ultimately be determined by the strength of national political structures, broad-based acceptance, grassroots mobilisation, coalition building and the ability of candidates to secure the confidence of Nigerians across the federation.
The organisation maintained that presidential elections in Nigeria have historically been won through extensive national alliances and political structures rather than isolated regional support.
According to the forum, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to strengthen his national political presence through governance initiatives, strategic engagements and partnerships across different parts of the country.
NDI-ABAT argued that these factors give President Tinubu a significant advantage as Nigeria approaches another presidential election cycle.
The organisation further claimed that Peter Obi’s presidential ambition faces considerable obstacles, particularly in building the broad political coalition and nationwide political dominance required to win at the presidential level.
It said Nigerians would carefully consider the experience, national acceptance, political capacity and policy direction of all presidential contenders before deciding who to support in 2027.
NDI-ABAT also cautioned that the political future of Ndigbo should not be reduced to emotional sentiments or temporary political calculations.
The organisation insisted that the Southeast must pursue a strategic political path capable of guaranteeing inclusion, development, national relevance and stronger participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The forum said history remains a reminder that successful presidential campaigns require nationwide cooperation, credible political structures, effective mobilisation and enduring relationships across political, ethnic and regional boundaries.
NDI-ABAT therefore maintained that political decisions affecting Ndigbo must be guided by a careful assessment of national realities and the long-term benefits they can deliver to the Southeast.
The organisation reiterated that its commitment is focused on mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through lawful democratic engagement, constructive advocacy and grassroots participation ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election.
Meanwhile, NDI-ABAT has announced the postponement of its Asaba Igbo Summit, earlier scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026.
According to the organisation, the summit will now hold on a new date in September 2026.
NDI-ABAT said the decision to reschedule the event followed thorough consideration aimed at allowing improved coordination, wider participation and a more impactful engagement that reflects the importance and objectives of the gathering.
The organisation expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the change of date and appreciated the patience, understanding and commitment of distinguished guests, partners and supporters who have continued to identify with its vision.
NDI-ABAT also acknowledged its strategic collaboration with the City Boy Movement, describing the partnership as a significant political development aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation, expanding political engagement and promoting greater participation among Igbo communities across Nigeria.
The organisation said it would formally announce the new date for the Asaba Igbo Summit next week, alongside the unveiling of its four-month strategic mobilisation programmes.
According to NDI-ABAT, the programmes are designed to deepen political awareness, strengthen community engagement and advance its objectives ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to responsible political advocacy, democratic values, national unity and the pursuit of a stronger partnership between Ndigbo and the Nigerian state.
