Chief Raymond Nkemdirim, a prominent Abia-born former Director of Operations at the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and Special Assistant to the Director-General of DSS, has spoken out in support of Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s transformative work in Abia State. This came in response to recent claims that the governor’s administration was merely “painting roads” without substantial development.
Speaking during a visit to Abia State as part of the promoters and partners of the proposed Aba Commercial Smart City (ACSC) Project, Nkemdirim emphasized the significant improvements seen across the state. He remarked:

“Before we got here, sir, they told us that Abia State was painted… Looking around the State, we’ve come to discover that painting has a different meaning in Abia State. Painting now in Abia State means solid roads; means better infrastructure; means a lot of the good things we’ve been hearing.”
Nkemdirim, a respected figure in both security and community development, expressed his gratitude for Governor Otti’s efforts. He noted that under the governor’s leadership, Abians now have a reason to feel proud of their state:
“For those of us from the State, we were never used to being proud to be called Abians; we want to say we are proud to be citizens of Abia today.”
The former DSS official also commended Governor Otti for assembling a team of skilled professionals to drive his vision for the state’s development. According to Nkemdirim, this forward-thinking leadership is vital in moving Abia to the next level.
His statements highlight the growing optimism among Abians, who are witnessing first-hand the transformative impact of the current administration’s infrastructural advancements and governance strategies.
As the Aba Commercial Smart City (ACSC) Project continues to take shape, it is expected to further boost the state’s economic landscape and provide lasting benefits for its citizens.
