15th February 2026 – Ndigbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum Press Statement
Ndigbo Prioritize Infrastructure Rehabilitation Over 2027 Presidency – NDI-ABAT
The Coalition of Pro-Igbo Progressive Groups, operating under the auspices of the Ndigbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT), feels compelled to convey this forthright communiqué to our esteemed brother, the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi. We must candidly assert that the path Mr. Obi intends to traverse, in pursuit of the 2027 presidential elections scheduled for 20th February 2027, is fraught with formidable challenges. Attempts to entice our Igbo brethren into yet another political odyssey—without thoughtful consultation with influential Igbo political actors, traditional leaders, and the broad Igbo populace—may result in dire consequences for our region.

The specter of electoral defeat looms large, and a loss would have cascading ramifications for the economy and political landscape of the Southeast. It is within Mr. Obi’s constitutional rights to contest for the presidency; however, it is imperative that he first reflects upon the tumultuous aftermath of his previous campaign alongside Atiku Abubakar in 2019. That partnership proved catastrophic for many Igbo entrepreneurs across all 36 states of Nigeria. The subsequent election of former President Muhammadu Buhari heralded a series of draconian policies targeting the Igbo community, including the hasty closure of the Seme border, an unjust ban on trade practices that favor our people, and the disavowal of promises made regarding the creation of additional states for our region.
Drawing from these bitter experiences, we, the Ndigbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum, boldly implore Mr. Obi to reassess his political ambitions and delay his presidential aspirations until 2035.
Furthermore, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, for taking commendable strides toward mitigating the 56 years of Igbo marginalization that followed the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War. Let this message resonate clearly: the collective aspirations of the Southeast region and the Igbo people center on the urgent need for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of all federal road infrastructure devastated during the conflict. This initiative constitutes a crucial pathway toward genuine national reconciliation and the reintegration of the Igbo into the broader Nigerian society.
While many may hold the belief that the emergence of an Igbo presidency in 2027 is plausible, the realities on the ground suggest that this vision may be more achievable in 2035. It is particularly noteworthy that President Tinubu has appointed an Igbo man, Senator Umahi, as the Minister of Works, marking a significant step toward rebuilding the Southeast’s infrastructure.
We must acknowledge that the four-year period between 2023 and 2027 is insufficient for the federal government and the Ministry of Works to adequately rehabilitate and reconstruct the many neglected federal roads in the Southeast that have suffered from decades of abandonment. Given that President Tinubu has already allocated 1.4 trillion Naira toward infrastructural improvements within our region, it is only just that he be afforded another term to enable the Minister of Works to see through the completion of ongoing projects before the year 2031.
In conclusion, we stand resolute in our commitment to advocating for the welfare and interests of the Igbo people and fostering a constructive dialogue around our infrastructural needs. Our focus must remain on rehabilitation rather than political ambitions at this critical juncture.
