Umuahia, Abia State – In what many observers have described as a dramatic and symbolic political moment, several support groups aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) staged a surprise “ambush” on Bishop Prof. Emeka Nwankpa, passionately urging him to contest for the governorship of Abia State in the 2027 general elections.
The unexpected encounter reportedly took place on Monday, 23rd March, 2025, during a private engagement, where members of the groups, drawn from across the three senatorial zones of the state, gathered in large numbers to present a unified appeal. Their message was clear and emphatic: Abia State needs a leader with proven compassion, integrity, and a track record of service — qualities they believe Bishop Nwankpa embodies.

According to them, the Bishop’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian work, youth empowerment, and educational support across communities has already demonstrated the kind of leadership Abians desire.
Speaking on behalf of the groups, one of the coordinators, Chief Okereke Awa, noted that Bishop Nwankpa’s influence and impact extend beyond politics, stressing that his interventions through his foundation have transformed countless lives without reliance on public office.
“If he can achieve this much as a private citizen, imagine what he will do with the mandate of the people,” the spokesperson said.
The groups further emphasized the need for a leader who is not only visionary but also selfless and accessible. They argued that Bishop Nwankpa represents a refreshing departure from conventional politics, bringing a blend of moral authority and practical leadership to governance.
In his response, Bishop Prof. Emeka Nwankpa expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming show of confidence and support. While he did not make any formal declaration, he acknowledged the concerns raised and assured the gathering that he would reflect prayerfully and consult widely before making any decision.
“I am humbled by this demonstration of love and trust,” he said. “Leadership is a call to serve, and any decision I make will be guided by the collective interest of the people and the will of God.”
As the momentum builds, all eyes will be on Bishop Nwankpa, whose next move may significantly shape the political landscape of Abia in the years to come.
