In what has been described as one of the most emotional and defining moments of his ongoing consultative tour across Abia North, Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, MFR, OON, has recounted an unforgettable encounter in Isuikwuato Local Government Area where former elected councillors waited for hours in a pitch-black auditorium using their mobile phone lights to welcome him.
The emotional incident occurred late Monday evening, October 26, 2026, following prolonged consultative engagements across Bende and Ohafia LGAs that ran several hours behind schedule.

Chief Bourdex revealed that due to the extreme lateness of the hour, he had initially considered calling off the Isuikwuato leg of the tour to avoid inconveniencing the participants. However, upon arriving at the venue around 7:00 PM, his team met an astonishing sight: the entire hall was in complete darkness due to power outage, yet dozens of former local government lawmakers remained patiently seated, illuminating the dark hall with the flashlights of their mobile phones.
Visibly moved by the dedication of the grassroots leaders, the renowned industrialist and political leader admitted that the gesture brought him to the verge of tears.
“What I encountered on entering the auditorium is something I shall carry in my memory for a very long time,” Bourdex emotionally shared. “There was no electricity, yet there they were—still seated, still expecting us, illuminating the dark hall with the lights from their mobile phones. For a moment, I was almost overcome with emotion; I must confess that I nearly shed tears.”
After profusely apologizing for the delay caused by extended sessions in Bende and Ohafia, Bourdex addressed the gathering, praising the dignity of public service and reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development and institutional accountability.

He also commended the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for his ongoing efforts toward resolving and paying long-outstanding entitlements owed to former local government councillors across the state.
Spoken testimonials from the former councillors highlighted Chief Bourdex’s decades-long reputation in business, philanthropy, and community development. Speakers recalled hearing about his track record from their younger years and expressed total confidence in his capacity to deliver effective legislative representation for Abia North in the Red Chamber.
The highlight of the late-night meeting was a formal motion moved and unanimously adopted by the former Isuikwuato councillors endorsing Chief Bourdex as their preferred senatorial candidate for Abia North in the 2027 general elections.
The resolution marked the third consecutive endorsement received by Chief Bourdex in a single day, following similar unanimous motions passed during his earlier stops in Bende and Ohafia LGAs.
Extending his profound gratitude to the people of Isuikwuato as his delegation departed late into the night for his country home in Abiriba, Chief Bourdex assured the grassroots leaders that their sacrifice and confidence in his vision would be repaid with performance-driven representation.
