In a blistering response to recent statements by Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor, “De Ultimate Commander” and Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, has condemned the lawmaker for what he described as a shameful attempt to rewrite history and steal credit from Abia State Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
Kalu had recently insisted that the Omenuko Bridge, a landmark infrastructure achievement under Governor Otti’s administration, should be credited as a federal project on account of the state receiving refund of the project’s cost from the federal government. This assertion, according to Ambassador Offor, is “an insensitive and calculated blackmail aimed at chasing political clout.”

“Since the bridge has been successfully completed,” Offor said, “why not channel the same energy into advocating for the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia Road—a notorious death-trap that passes directly in front of his own house—rather than claiming credit for what is already done?”
Ambassador Offor accused Kalu of placing personal interest above the collective good of the old Bende region. “He will never present that road for reconstruction because it runs past his property that is illegally standing on the right of way! This is selfishness masquerading as representation,” he stated.
Offor challenged the Deputy Speaker to stop the false narrative of the Omenuko Bridge being a federal project. “Instead of grandstanding and lying to the public, use your position to tell President Tinubu to reconstruct the dangerous road in your backyard (or front of yard, as the case may be) . That would be true leadership, serving the people rather than self-interest,” he said.
Governor Alex Otti’s administration has been lauded for its commitment to infrastructural development, transparency, and delivering projects that impact the lives of Abians. The Omenuko Bridge stands as a testament to this commitment—a bridge built by the state, for the people, under a visionary leadership that puts citizens first.
Ambassador Offor’s remarks are a stark reminder that public office is a call to serve the collective good, not a stage for personal aggrandizement. In the face of blatant political opportunism, Abians are being urged to recognize the difference between true service and self-serving theatrics.
“The bridge is done. It is the road that demands urgent attention,” Offor emphasized, “and it is shameful that a lawmaker would attempt to rewrite history to score political points while the people continue to suffer on the very road that runs past his home.”
The message is clear: Governor Alex Otti’s legacy of service and infrastructural transformation will not be hijacked by political mischief, and the people of Abia will not be fooled by clout-chasing lies.
