Late on Wednesday night, suspected herdsmen attacked the Ikobi-Ochekwu hamlet in Benue State’s Apa Local Government Area, killing a number of locals, including a recently married soldier.
The attack was reported to have lasted for several hours.

Ochofie, a community member, said that the assailants broke into the town in the dark, shooting at locals intermittently and burning buildings.
Many people are still missing; therefore, it’s difficult to determine the precise number of casualties.
According to a source, “Two additional bodies were found in nearby Ijaha in the early hours of Thursday. They were identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi.”
Authorities have not yet formally confirmed the identity of the other fatalities, including the soldiers who were killed and reportedly recently married.
