NBS reveals that 133 million Nigerians are poor

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has disclosed that 133 million Nigerians are multidimensionally poor. In its latest National Multidimensional Poverty Index Report launched on Thursday, the NBS said that 63 percent of Nigerians are poor due to a lack of access to health, education, and living standards, alongside unemployment and shocks. The MPI offers a multivariate form of poverty assessment, identifying deprivations across health, education, living standards, work, and shocks. The police command in Imo has called for calm following the alleged killing of Ignatius Asor, the ruler of the Ubudi Agwa community, Oguta local government area, and three others by gunmen. Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari has performed poorly in governance, economic and political transformation, according to the BTI 2022 Country Report. The Bertelsmann Transformation Index (BTI) measures the development status and governance of political and economic transformation processes in developing and transition countries. Founded in 1977, the report is published biennially by Bertelsmann Stiftung, an independent establishment based in Gütersloh, Germany. More than 250 experts from leading academic institutions and civil society organizations worldwide assessed 137 nations.
