Nigerians are being cautioned not to buy pre-registered SIM cards by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The Commission underlined that this behaviour was prohibited and might have serious repercussions, such as jail time. The NCC emphasised that people who use these SIM cards may unintentionally be connected to crimes like financial fraud, kidnapping, identity theft, and armed robbery. In addition, the NCC noted that pre-registered SIM cards taint customer data and make it more difficult to successfully track down criminals.
