The Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (CISON) will continue its 3rd International Conference and Pre-Conference Workshop in Abuja, bringing together professional and academic perspectives on statistical development as the institute marks 50 years of the statistical profession in Nigeria.
The five-day event, which began on Monday, October 12, and runs until Friday, October 16, 2026, is holding at Chida Hotels Event Centre, Utako, Abuja, under the theme, “From Legacy to Leadership: 50 Years of Promoting Statistical Development in Nigeria.”
The conference provides a platform to reflect on the growth of the statistical profession over the past five decades and its place in Nigeria’s development, particularly the importance of credible data, professional competence and evidence-based decision-making.
The programme features the participation of CISON National President, Dr Godday Ebuh; Chairman of the National Organising Committee, Dr Michael Kalu Mba; and Dr Chigozie Utazi of the University of Southampton, among the personalities associated with the conference.
As the gathering enters its next phase, attention remains on the role of statisticians, researchers and other professionals in strengthening the production, interpretation and application of statistical information across sectors of the Nigerian economy.
The anniversary also offers an opportunity to consider how the profession can build on its achievements since 1976, respond to emerging demands and contribute more effectively to planning, public policy, research and national development.
The conference continues through Friday, October 16, and participants and interested stakeholders are encouraged to take note of the remaining programme at Chida Hotels Event Centre, Utako, Abuja.
