PRESS STATEMENT – 20/8)2024

It has come to my attention that Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu has been subjected to unwarranted criticism and abuse following a recent video where he is said to have called on Governor Alex Otti of Abia State to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). As someone who has closely followed his leadership style and legislative achievements, I feel compelled to set the record straight in defence of his honor and integrity.

Deputy Speaker Kalu’s achievements speak for themselves. He has successfully sponsored the Southeast Development Commission Bill, a landmark legislation that will bring immense benefits to our region. His PISE-Project (Peace in the Southeast East project) has achieved remarkable success in promoting reconciliation and peace in the region. Furthermore, he has attracted numerous federal appointments and development projects to Southeast, particularly Abia State, including the ongoing housing scheme.

It is unfair and unjust misinterpretation his call for effective synergy and attempt to rubbish his good works. Political opponents should not see this as an opportunity to shine. Instead, we should focus on the facts and acknowledge the significant contributions he has made to our state and region.

APC has indeed favored Abia State through his tireless efforts, and it is only reasonable that he calls for Abia to reap directly from the center. I urge the public to be wary of enemies of progress and purveyors of misinformation and recognize the Deputy Speaker’s commitment to the development and progress of our region.

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu and Governor Alex Otti are two progressively-like minded reputable leaders who have been working in synergy from their respective positions to move Abia State forward, albeit, Southeast. They need our support to achieve more, not our unwarranted attacks.

Let us cut Deputy Speaker Kalu some slack and acknowledge his dedication to serving our people. I stand in solidarity with him and urge others to do the same.
