Director of Abia Fire Service expresses concerns over increase in fire incidents in the state

Arua Nnanna, the Chief Fire Officer of the Abia State Fire Service and the State Controller has voiced concerns about the frequent fire outbreaks in the state, claiming that multiple properties have been damaged.

Nnanna made the observations at Umuahia in response to the recent fire incidents at the Nigeria Institute of International Languages in Aba, Chisco Motor Park in Aba, and Amuzukwu Primary School in Umuahia.
He declared that, in accordance with State government directives, his office would ensure that fire extinguishers were installed in buildings.

The governor of Abia State, Gov.  Alex Otti, he said, is concerned about the safety of his constituents and other people, and as such, the government will address any threat to public safety. He attributed the State’s documented fire incidents to a number of factors, including elevated temperatures, the storage of tainted petroleum products and other combustible materials, and internal electrical installations.

The Chief Fire Officer stated that his men had responded to numerous distress calls in an attempt to avert infernos, and that his office’s fire prevention unit would start enforcing the installation of fire extinguishers and other state-mandated preventive measures as outlined in current government approvals.
