In a powerful show of compassion and commitment to social justice, Dr. Chima Anyaso has extended support to inmates of the Umuahia Medium Security Custodial Center, assuring them that their current situation is not the end of their journey.
During his visit to the correctional facility, Dr. Anyaso told the inmates that their being in custody is not part of God’s plan, but rather a result of human error. He urged them to hold on to faith, declaring that “God did not ordain anyone to live in trouble there is still hope, and God will surely rescue you.”

Backed by action, Dr. Anyaso donated essential materials to the Nigeria Correctional Service to ease logistical challenges. These include new tyres and five batteries for three vehicles that had been grounded, affecting the transportation of inmates to court. He also provided bags of rice and clothing items (wrappers) for the inmates.
In a bid to support rehabilitation through education, Dr. Anyaso promised to renovate the National Open University building within the facility and to sponsor NECO examination registration for 16 inmates currently enrolled in studies.
He shared his personal story with the inmates, explaining how his life has been guided by faith and perseverance. “Make God your solid rock. Don’t lose hope keep it alive,” he said. “I didn’t plan to come today, but God made it happen. Trust in Him.”

Dr. Anyaso also announced plans to partner with the Nigeria Correctional Service through the prison ministry of his church, House on the Rock, to provide ongoing support and spiritual guidance.
Dr. Anyaso’s visit served as both a practical intervention and a message of hope, reaffirming the belief that no one is beyond redemption and that with faith and support, brighter days lie ahead.
In his remarks, the Deputy Controller in charge of the Umuahia Custodial Center, DCC Mabia Ojiakor Michael, praised Dr. Anyaso for demonstrating what he called “the true heart of leadership.”

“Choosing to spend time with those behind the walls shows compassion, love, and a commitment to service,” DCC Michael said. He also highlighted the challenges faced by the center, including severe overcrowding currently housing 843 inmates with 95% being youths and mostly school dropouts.
“We are committed to reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration, but we cannot do it alone,” he added. “We need partners who believe in second chances.”
The General Provost of the inmates, Mr. Chikadi Dick, expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Anyaso’s visit and generosity. He also thanked DCC Ojiakor for his continued fatherly care and appealed for further support, including the restoration of the inmates’ viewing center.
