Former Abia State Governor, Senator Theodore Orji, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Umuahia Ward 1, Orji cited “wide consultations with family and associates” as the reason for his decision, effective immediately.

Orji, who served as governor from 2007 to 2015 and represented Abia Central in the Senate, expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received during his time in the party. His resignation marks a significant development in Abia politics, given his influential role in the PDP.
Notably, this isn’t the first time Orji has switched parties; he initially won the governorship on the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) platform in 2007 before joining the PDP in 2011. His son, Chinedum Orji, and wife had also defected from the PDP earlier.
