Umuahia, Abia State – In a historic move set to redefine public transportation in Abia State, the Executive Governor, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, welcomed a high-powered delegation from Yutong, one of the world’s leading bus manufacturers, at the Government House in Umuahia. The engagement marks a significant milestone in Governor Otti’s vision to modernize the State Transport System, improve urban mobility, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The meeting brought together Governor Otti’s top officials, including Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Chief of Staff; High Chief J. N. Amakwe, Special Adviser on PPP-IP; and Chief Sunday Afurobi, Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area. Their presence underscored the state government’s commitment to forging strategic partnerships that drive sustainable development.

The initiative owes much to the foresight and dedication of Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor, fondly known as “De Ultimate Commander” and leader of the United Abia Artistes and Patriots (UAAP) Forum. Ambassador Offor played a pivotal role in bringing Yutong to Abia State, recognizing Governor Otti’s capacity to deliver transformative infrastructure projects. Speaking on the engagement, he said, “This project is more than introducing buses; it is a strategic vision for progress. By combining global technology with local expertise, we aim to transform Abia’s transport system into a model of efficiency, safety, and sustainability. This is a benchmark for all states in Nigeria.”
The Yutong delegation and local partners, including Everyday Motors Ltd, engaged in detailed discussions on revamping the State Transport System. Delegates included Frank Lee, MD West Africa, Yutong; Damian Li, Account Manager; Xu Wenting, Head of R&D; Duanmu, Financial Manager; Zhang Lianjun, Product Manager; Gao Pengchao, Marketing Manager; Zhao Meizhou, New Energy Manager; Tony Godson Anyanwu, Project Promoter; Emeka Okelo, Chairman of Everyday Motors Ltd; Mercy Torty of Everyday Motors Ltd; Chief Mayor Afurobi, Umunneochi LGA Chairman; and Chief Ben Etie Junior (Ochiagha Nneato).
Discussions focused on the introduction of modern, high-capacity buses, including new energy and eco-friendly models, to strengthen public transport across the state. The project aligns with Governor Otti’s vision of building a modern transport system that delivers efficiency, safety, and comfort to the people of Abia. Beyond the supply of buses, the partnership includes technical training, capacity building, and long-term collaboration to ensure the benefits of the initiative are sustainable and impactful for generations.
Governor Otti expressed optimism about the project, noting that it would not only modernize the transport system but also create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and improve the overall quality of life for residents. Ambassador Offor reinforced this vision, highlighting the shared commitment to progress and innovation, saying the collaboration represents a transformative model for development in the state.
The Yutong engagement demonstrates how strategic partnerships, innovation, and visionary leadership can drive meaningful change. By combining global technology with local expertise, the initiative is set to position Abia State as a leader in modern, sustainable public transport, serving as a benchmark for other states across Nigeria.
Under Governor Otti’s purposeful leadership and with the strategic guidance of Ambassador Offor, Abia State is now poised to enter a new era of modern, world-class public transport. The initiative not only addresses immediate transport challenges but also lays the foundation for long-term socio-economic development, urban sustainability, and improved living standards for the people of Abia.
Long live Abia State!
