Governor Otti Commissions Remodelled Obingwa General Hospital, Renames Facility After Chima Ubani

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, on Tuesday commissioned the newly remodelled and digitally equipped 80-bed Obingwa General Hospital in Mgboko, with the facility renamed the Chima Ubani Memorial Hospital in honour of the late human rights activist and illustrious son of Obingwa.

Governor Otti was accompanied to the commissioning by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, as the administration continued its drive to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services across the state.

The newly remodelled hospital has been equipped with modern facilities and digital systems designed to enhance healthcare delivery, efficiency and patient experience.

Among the features of the facility are an 80-bed capacity, digital healthcare and data management systems, real-time collaboration between healthcare facilities, technology-assisted laboratory and scan analysis, a fully equipped surgical theatre and modern eye-care units for specialised ophthalmic services.

The hospital also has observation rooms for patient monitoring, a healing garden designed to provide a soothing therapeutic environment, as well as a renewable energy system to ensure reliable power supply.

Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Otti reiterated that healthcare remains a major priority of his administration, particularly efforts aimed at saving lives and improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.

The renaming of the hospital after Chima Ubani, a renowned human rights activist who made significant contributions to society, was also described as a fitting tribute to his legacy and service to humanity.

The remodelling of the Obingwa General Hospital is expected to provide residents of Obingwa and neighbouring communities with access to a more modern, technology-driven and people-centred healthcare system.

The commissioning formed part of the Abia State Government’s broader efforts to reposition public healthcare facilities and deliver improved social services to residents.
