The Labour Party of Nigeria on Tuesday successfully held its 2026 Elective National Convention in Umuahia,marking a significant moment in the party’s ongoing political consolidation ahead of future national engagements.

At the convention, party stakeholders, delegates and leaders from across the country converged to elect a new National Working Committee and deliberate on the party’s direction. A key highlight of the event was the formal adoption of the mode of election and voting method,a motion that was moved on the convention floor and unanimously accepted by delegates.

Following the electoral process,Nenadi Usman emerged as the new National Chairman of the party. Her emergence signals a new phase of leadership expected to strengthen internal democracy and reposition the party for greater national influence.

In the same exercise,Iheanacho Obioma a prominent figure within the party was elected as the National Secretary,alongside other members who now make up the National Working Committee.

The convention was widely regarded as peaceful,transparent and successful,reflecting the party’s commitment to democratic principles and organizational discipline.

Hon Ibe Okwara Osonwa who attended and actively participated in the convention proceedings,congratulated the newly elected leaders and expressed confidence in their ability to steer the party toward unity, growth and electoral success.
