Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, the Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, on Thursday participated in a historic plenary session at the House of Representatives where lawmakers affirmed the new Minority Leadership of the House and advanced critical national security reforms.
During the plenary, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa joined fellow legislators in congratulating Hon. Fred Agbedi on his emergence as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, expressing confidence in the new leadership’s capacity to strengthen legislative engagement and democratic accountability.

The day’s proceedings also witnessed the passage of the State Police Bill, a landmark legislative development widely regarded as a major step towards improving grassroots security and bringing law enforcement closer to local communities.
The passage of the bill comes just days after Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa raised concerns on the floor of the House regarding the growing insecurity across the country, particularly the threats facing schools and schoolchildren.
The lawmaker described the development as both timely and necessary in addressing the evolving security challenges confronting the nation.
Following the plenary session, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa proceeded to the Labour Party National Secretariat, where he was formally presented with his Certificate of Nomination as the Labour Party candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Receiving the certificate, the federal lawmaker described the nomination not as a personal achievement, but as a renewed call to service and a reaffirmation of the trust reposed in him by the party and the people of Arochukwu and Ohafia.
According to him, the milestone reflects the collective efforts of party faithful, supporters, and constituents who have remained steadfast throughout the journey of representation and development over the past three years.
Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR; the leadership of the Labour Party; ward executives; stakeholders; and supporters across Arochukwu and Ohafia for their unwavering support and confidence in his leadership.
He reiterated his commitment to consolidating on the achievements already recorded and ensuring that the gains of effective representation continue to reach every part of the constituency.
With the Certificate of Nomination now formally secured, the lawmaker declared his readiness to continue the task of delivering quality representation, people-oriented legislation, and sustainable development for the people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
The event marks another significant milestone in Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa’s political journey as preparations gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
