Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced plans to roll out a comprehensive Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation Programme across the constituency.
According to the lawmaker, the initiative is aimed at supporting vulnerable households, expanding income opportunities, and delivering practical economic assistance directly to residents of Arochukwu and Ohafia communities.
Hon. Osonwa explained that the programme builds on a series of empowerment and human capital development initiatives previously implemented within the constituency. These include ICT training and empowerment schemes, digital reskilling programmes for teachers, economic support for widows and women, as well as scholarship opportunities for students (Youths).
He noted that the consistent objective of these interventions has been to equip constituents with relevant skills, tools, and support capable of translating into sustainable economic value and improved livelihoods.
The federal lawmaker emphasized that economic growth must be pursued simultaneously at different levels, stressing the importance of combining long-term development planning with immediate, people-focused interventions.
While efforts continue to attract and support large-scale development and infrastructure projects within the constituency, Hon. Osonwa said targeted empowerment programmes remain critical in strengthening household incomes, supporting small businesses, and stimulating grassroots economic activities.
He added that the new empowerment and poverty alleviation programme aligns with his broader development strategy—providing timely support to families while laying the groundwork for more extensive economic growth initiatives across Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
