The member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has called on members and supporters of the Labour Party across Abia North Senatorial District to remain united, committed and vigilant as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Osonwa made the call at the Abia North Senatorial District Labour Party Stakeholders and Candidates Strategic Summit held over the weekend in Abiriba. The meeting brought together party leaders, stakeholders and candidates from Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Local Government Areas.

The strategic summit was convened by the Labour Party’s Abia North Senatorial Candidate, Chief David Ogba Onuoha (Bourdex), and was attended by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, alongside other prominent party leaders and elected officials.
Addressing the gathering, the federal lawmaker expressed appreciation to party faithful for their steadfast support, sacrifices and commitment, describing them as the driving force behind the Labour Party’s electoral successes in Abia State.
“We do not take your votes for granted. Everything we have achieved as a party has been made possible through your dedication, resilience and belief in our shared vision. From the depth of my heart, I sincerely thank every member of our great party,” Osonwa said.
Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, Osonwa recalled that Abia North was the only senatorial district where the Labour Party recorded victories in all five local government areas despite not being in control of the state government at the time.
He said the party now stands on a stronger footing, citing the leadership of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) and what he described as the administration’s visible developmental strides across the state.
According to him, the achievements of the Otti administration have further strengthened the Labour Party’s chances of recording even greater success in the 2027 elections.
The lawmaker, however, stressed that electoral victory extends beyond mobilising voters, urging party members, particularly those in Ohafia Local Government Area, to remain vigilant and ensure that every valid vote counts.
“Mobilising voters is only half the task. Protecting the mandate is equally important. Every vote must not only be cast but must also be defended. We have all it takes to protect the votes of our people,” he stated.
Osonwa also called for sustained unity within the party, noting that internal contests had come to an end and that members should now channel their energy towards securing another decisive victory for the Labour Party across Abia North.
He urged party faithful to continue supporting Governor Alex Otti’s administration, assuring them that the governor remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.
“The era of internal contest is behind us. What lies ahead is one shared project that belongs to all of us—from the polling units to the wards and across the entire Abia North Senatorial District. Together, we will deliver another victory,” he added.
The summit concluded with renewed commitments from party leaders, stakeholders and supporters to deepen grassroots mobilisation, strengthen party structures and consolidate the Labour Party’s achievements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
