A SUMMARY OF THE FINDINGS WITH REGARDS TO MR OGBA OKA UDO
SCHEDULED VISIT TO MR. OGBA OKA UDO AT THE NIGERIA CORRECTIONAL SERVICES, ABA on Saturday, 20/9/25.
The Asaga (Ohafia) Youth Association (AYA) Worldwide having completed the scheduled visit to our brother and friend, Mr. Ogba Oka Udo who has been at the Nigeria Correctional Service, Aba, Abia State based on a judgement of the High Court sentencing him to death by hanging for an accusation of murder that has all the trappings of political witch hunt have come up with the summary of events below.
We were opportuned to hear his side of the story, which was so heart breaking and made many AYA delegates on the entourage to shed tears!
His story, which he tagged as political witch-hunt started at his work place, Abia State Vigilante Service (ASVS), popularly known as “BAKASSI” where he was gainfully employed in around the year 2014. In the preceding year 2015, he was transferred to their Aba Divisional Office to serve as the Office Secretary to the Divisional Head.
Unbeknownst to him, the then Divisional Head at the Aba Office was having a leadership tussle with the overall General Commander at the time.
Around the middle of the year 2015, Mr. Ogba Oka Udo noticed the sudden prolonged absence of his Divisional Commander from the Office but did not attach any significance to it other than the worries of a subordinate that has not seen his boss for some time.

The absence of the then Divisional Commander continued to raise worries within the command because the staff were not briefed on any matter regarding his prolonged absence, until a certain day that the General Commander called him (Mr. Ogba Oka) to report at the ASVS headquarters at Umuahia. Mr Ogba Oka honoured that invitation to headquarters and upon arrival, the General Commander, informed him that the Aba Division has a case before the Nigeria Police Zone 9, Umuahia linking his boss, the Divisional Commander to a particular incident. He was informed that he was just invited to go and assist his leader – the Divisional Commander – to write his statement at the Police Station because his Divisional Commander could not read nor write.
Mr Ogba Oka was driven from the ASVS Headquarters with the authority of the General Commander to Zone 9 headquarters Umuahia, and there he met his Divisional Commander who narrated to him (Mr. Ogba) that he has been detained for days, from there Mr Udo was linked with the Divisional Commander as the Secretary and, that he must join in responding and writing a statement on the incident – which turned out to be a case of murder!
Mr. Ogba Oka Udo who vehemently opposed such inclusion explained that his General Commander only requested he come around to help his Divisional Commander to write a statement because the Divisional Commander was known to be unable to read or write and that he knew nothing about any murder because his job description was that of a Secretary who handles administrative duties and was not permitted to go for Field Operations/Arrests.
Despite these explanations and the verifiable facts they contain, He was detained all the same by the Police and subsequently charged to court for a case of murder alongside the Divisional Commander.
The case continued while he was transferred to the Nigeria Correctional Service, Aba pending the conclusion of the case. After spending about five years at the Correctional Services, Aba, both detainees (Mr. Ogba & the Divisional Commander) were granted bail on health grounds while the case continued.
In the year 2022, the Presiding Judge, re-invited both persons for a proposed settlement which they honoured.
This purported settlement turned out to be a ploy to deceive them because it turned out to be a final delivery of judgement on the case by the Presiding Judge.
The two persons (Mr. Ogba Oka Udo and the Divisional Commander) were summarily sentenced to death by hanging! And they were thereafter remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Service, Aba, Abia State.
The case has been appealed at the Court of Appeal, but it has not been given much attention. As at the last visit by AYA National Worldwide delegation to Mr. Ogba Oka Udo on Saturday, 20th September 2025, the case have not been called up for hearing for more than 1 year and counting.
AYA National has also gone further to trace the case file through the assistance of individuals with the desire for justice. We are working towards a pursuit of this case to a logical conclusion.
We use this opportunity to call on our prominent Sons and Daughters, to put all hands on deck to pursue this case to conclusion so that justice and fairness will be handed over to our brother and friend, Mr. Ogba Oka Udo within the shortest possible time.
For more details, do not hesitate to contact the AYA National President, Mr. Ibe Ndubuisi Uwa on 0806 165 4596.
