The Isuikwuato Local Government Traditional Rulers Advisory Council has disowned reports suggesting that the Council formally endorsed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for the 2027 Abia North Senatorial election.
The Council, through its Public Relations Officer, HRH Eze Engr. Okey A. Udeh, said no such endorsement was authorised by the body, insisting that the traditional institution remains non-partisan and does not endorse politicians or political parties.
The clarification follows reports published on September 24 and 25 claiming that traditional rulers in Isuikwuato expressed support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid to return to the Senate in 2027 after an interactive meeting with the senator during his ongoing engagement across Abia North.
But in a statement made available to the public, the Isuikwuato Traditional Rulers Advisory Council drew a clear distinction between any individual expressions of support by traditional rulers and an official position of the Council as an institution.
According to the Council, “at no time, in any meeting, gathering, or forum” did it endorse Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for any political office or interest.
It also stated that no individual or group had been authorised to issue such an endorsement on behalf of the Council.
The Council described the publication as a misrepresentation of the position of the traditional institution and called on the public to disregard any claim presented as an official endorsement by the Advisory Council.
The statement stressed that the traditional institution remains “non-partisan” and “father to all”, adding that it does not engage in partisan endorsement of politicians, political parties or aspirants.
The clarification was signed by HRH Eze Engr. Okey A. Udeh, PRO, Isuikwuato Local Government Traditional Rulers Advisory Council.
With the 2027 Abia North senatorial contest already generating competing political narratives, the Council’s intervention adds another layer to the ongoing debate over endorsements and the role of traditional institutions in partisan politics.
