He described the President’s intervention in the region as “a bold and commendable step in the right direction,” noting that ongoing federal attention to the South-East represents a significant departure from years of perceived neglect and underdevelopment.

While expressing optimism about the prospects of the Commission, he stressed that the real responsibility now lies with the Chairman and Board Members that constitutes the leadership of the SEDC whom he describe as men and women of integrity, tested integrity and managerial accumen, to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring prudent management of public resources and tangible developmental outcomes.
He specifically called for accountability, transparency, and measurable impact from the leadership team, insisting that the people of the South-East must remain vigilant and hold the Commission accountable for the effective utilization of funds meant for regional transformation.
“The opportunity before us is enormous. The people of the South-East deserve visible development, infrastructure renewal, economic empowerment, and strategic investments that will improve livelihoods. This is the time for the Commission to deliver and justify the confidence placed in it,” he emphasized.
Mazi Jonas therefore charged the SEDC leadership to ensure the approved resources are deployed judiciously to fast-track meaningful development across the region, while reiterating his belief that under President Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria is witnessing renewed commitment to inclusive national growth and regional balance.
