The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Abia State Chapter, has formally unveiled Elder Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah and Engr. Bright Alaribe as its governorship candidate and running mate respectively, setting the stage for a more intense political battle ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The duo were unveiled on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Britarch Event Center, adjacent to the Abia State House of Assembly Complex, Umuahia, alongside other candidates of the party for the 2027 general elections.
The ceremony brought together NDC leaders, stakeholders, candidates, grassroots executives, women and youth leaders, as well as supporters from across the state.
With Etugo Ogah and Alaribe now formally carrying the party’s governorship ticket, the NDC has moved beyond internal preparations and into the wider political arena, with its leadership expected to take the campaign to communities across Abia’s 17 local government areas.
The party also unveiled its senatorial candidates, with Hon. Uko Nkole representing Abia North, Senator Nkechi Nworgu for Abia Central and Hon. Kasarachi Micheal for Abia South.
Eight House of Representatives candidates and 24 State House of Assembly candidates were equally presented, giving the NDC a full electoral structure for the 2027 contest.
The State Chairman, Chief Ako Atulomah, led the party leadership at the ceremony, while the State Publicity Secretary, Rtn. Emeka Luis Okoro, described the unveiling as a major milestone in the party’s preparations for the elections.
The NDC said its candidates were presented as credible and people-driven alternatives, with a mandate to offer Abians purposeful leadership and responsive governance.
For Etugo Ogah and Alaribe, however, the unveiling is more than a ceremonial presentation. It places the duo at the centre of the NDC’s effort to challenge for power in Abia and gives them the responsibility of selling the party’s message to an electorate already weighing its options ahead of 2027.
The party will now have to translate its growing political structure into grassroots strength, voter mobilisation and a compelling campaign capable of resonating across the state’s diverse political constituencies.
As the 2027 contest gradually gathers momentum, Etugo Ogah and Alaribe now have the NDC flag in their hands. The political race in Abia has entered a more decisive phase.
