NDC Unveils Etugo Ogah, Uko Nkole, Nworgu, Others As Candidates For 2027 Elections In Abia

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Abia State Chapter, has formally unveiled its candidates for the 2027 general elections, with Elder Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah emerging as the party’s governorship candidate alongside his running mate, Engr. Bright Alaribe.

The unveiling ceremony, held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Britarch Event Center, adjacent to the Abia State House of Assembly Complex, Umuahia, brought together party leaders, stakeholders, candidates, ward and local government executives, women and youth leaders, as well as supporters of the party.

The event marked a major step in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 elections, as the party formally presented its candidates for the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.

For the Abia governorship contest, Elder Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah was officially presented as the party’s standard-bearer, with Engr. Bright Alaribe named as his running mate.

The party also unveiled its three senatorial candidates who will fly the NDC flag across the three senatorial districts of the state.

They include Hon. Uko Nkole for Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Nkechi Nworgu for Abia Central Senatorial District and Hon. Kasarachi Micheal for Abia South Senatorial District.

The party further presented eight candidates for the House of Representatives and 24 candidates for the Abia State House of Assembly, completing a broad slate of candidates for the 2027 electoral contest.

The gathering provided an opportunity for the party leadership to formally identify its candidates before party members and stakeholders, while reinforcing the NDC’s readiness to participate fully in the forthcoming elections.

The State Chairman of the NDC, Chief Ako Atulomah, led the party leadership at the event, while the State Publicity Secretary, Rtn. Emeka Luis Okoro, had earlier described the unveiling as an important milestone in the party’s drive to build a stronger political structure ahead of 2027.

The party said its candidates were selected with the objective of presenting credible and people-driven alternatives capable of delivering purposeful leadership and democratic dividends to the people of Abia.

With the formal unveiling now concluded, attention is expected to shift toward strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, consolidating support across the 17 local government areas and mobilising voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The NDC’s unveiling also signals the beginning of a more defined electoral contest in Abia, with the party expected to intensify its engagement with communities, political stakeholders and the electorate in the months ahead.

Succinctly put, the NDC’s 2027 candidate slate cuts across the governorship, three senatorial districts, eight federal constituencies and 24 State House of Assembly constituencies in Abia State.
