Following the failure of the peace negotiations between the representatives sent by the Economic Community of West African States, the military junta in the Niger Republic severed ties with Nigeria, France, and other nations on Friday.
The ECOWAS team “arrived in Niamey with the aim of establishing a dialogue with the junta in order to obtain the return to constitutional order,” Radio France International reported on Friday. The initial site interactions were favorable.
But at night’s end, the CNSP spoke through Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane, the same man who had spoken on July 26 when the troops announced that they had toppled President Mohamed Bazoum.
The report as well stated that “The putschists also decided to end the functions of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of the Republic of Niger” from four nations: France, the United States, two of President Bazoum’s allies, Nigeria, whose President Bola Tinubu also serves as the head of ECOWAS, and those countries that imposed sanctions against Niger, including the suspension of financial and commercial transactions, the freezing of putschists’ assets, and the interruption of electricity supply.
Before this occurrence, OHAFIATV News reported on August 3 that Tinubu, the head of the regional bloc’s Economic Community of West Africa, had cut off power supply from Nigeria to the Republic of Niger on Wednesday in an effort to sanction the military coup that took place on July 26 in the Niger Republic.
