The people of Agboha Autonomous Community, Okwoko Nkporo, have celebrated their annual New Yam Festival with a renewed commitment to strengthening their relationship with the Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa.
The colourful celebration, held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, women, youths and other residents of Agboha to mark the harvest season and celebrate the community’s heritage, unity and peaceful coexistence.

Representing Hon. Osonwa at the occasion was Elder Comrade Agwu Otuwe, Nkporo Coordinator of the Ibe Youth Movement and Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party in Ohafia Local Government Area.
In his address, Otuwe expressed gratitude to God Almighty for another bumper harvest and congratulated the traditional ruler, President General and people of Okwoko Nkporo for sustaining peace and harmony in the community.
He noted that Nkporo has remained an important part of Hon. Osonwa’s constituency-wide development agenda, highlighting several interventions already recorded in the area.
Among them is the completed and furnished modern three-classroom block at Ukwa Community Primary School, while Ugwu Ufie Primary Health Centre in Elughu Nkporo was one of six centres that participated in the lawmaker’s free medical and surgical outreach, which treated more than 9,000 people and provided 38 free surgeries to beneficiaries at no cost.
He also noted that some Nkporo markets have benefited from solar-powered streetlights, while the community was included in Hon. Osonwa’s motion on the floor of the House of Representatives seeking urgent Federal Government intervention over erosion.
Hon. Osonwa, through his representative, reaffirmed his commitment to an inclusive representation that carries every community along, assuring Agboha and the wider Nkporo community that they would continue to have a place in his constituency engagement and development plans.
He further used the occasion to remind the people that Iri Ji remains an important moment for reflecting on the rich traditional heritage of the people, strengthening family values and promoting unity, peace and harmony within the community.
The Chairman of the occasion, Chief James Orji, in his vote of thanks, expressed appreciation to Hon. Osonwa for his continued attention to the needs of the people and pledged the community’s support for his political endeavours.
The traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze Ambassador Arunsi Nwankwo (Iwo II), who is also Chairman of the Ohafia Traditional Rulers Council, commended the engagement and offered prayers and goodwill for Hon. Osonwa in his political and public service pursuits.
The celebration ended with renewed calls for continued partnership between the community and the lawmaker, as the people of Agboha reaffirmed their commitment to peace, unity and collective development.
