The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) has intensified publicity for its forthcoming Pre-Political Electioneering Campaign Media, Culture and Creative Economy Summit, unveiling a nationwide and international media campaign ahead of the July 20, 2026 event in Lagos.
The summit, which forms part of activities marking the union’s Roadmap to RATTAWU@50 Golden Jubilee celebration, will hold at the Lagos Oriental Hotel and is expected to bring together media professionals, creative industry practitioners, labour leaders, policymakers and key stakeholders from across Nigeria.

With the theme, “Protecting Democracy in the AI Era: Media, Culture, Arts and the Creative Economy Workforce as Frontliners and Advocates of Electoral Integrity and Credibility,” the summit will examine the growing influence of artificial intelligence on democratic processes and the evolving role of media and creative professionals in promoting peaceful, credible and transparent elections.
The event follows a series of high-profile engagements by the union in recent months. These include the official unveiling of the RATTAWU@50 Roadmap by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, FNIPR, on May 19, 2026, as well as Team RATTAWU Nigeria’s participation at the 114th International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 1 to June 12, where delegates from 187 member states adopted Convention No. 193 — the first international labour standard dedicated to digital platform workers under the theme, Decent Work in the Platform Economy.
The union also recently hosted the maiden UNI Media, Entertainment and Arts (UNI-MEI) Africa Regional Conference in Abuja after securing the hosting rights for the continental gathering. The conference attracted representatives of 140 affiliated unions representing millions of workers across more than 70 countries.
According to a statement jointly signed by RATTAWU National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Francis Izang, and the Presidential Online Media Team, an aggressive promotional campaign has now commenced to mobilise participants ahead of the July summit.
The statement disclosed that strategically positioned LED display boards and digital screens carrying promotional materials for the summit have been activated at major domestic and international airport terminals, including the International Arrival Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
It added that the campaign would be sustained across multiple media platforms within and outside Nigeria as part of efforts to build momentum for what the union described as one of the flagship events of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.
RATTAWU said the summit will feature participants drawn from its national leadership, zonal and state councils, chapter executives, veterans of the union and critical stakeholders in the media, culture, arts and creative economy, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening democratic institutions and promoting electoral integrity in the age of artificial intelligence.
