The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) has reaffirmed the importance of professionalism, ethical communication and strategic public relations in strengthening the Union’s image, advocacy and engagement with stakeholders.
The position was underscored at the 3rd Quarter 2026 Induction Ceremony of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Bolingo Hotel, Abuja.
Representing the President of RATTAWU, Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu, at the ceremony, Comrade Ochili said the engagement offered valuable lessons on the strategic role of Public Relations in reputation management, effective communication, stakeholder engagement and organisational development.
The ceremony brought together newly inducted members, senior members, fellows, communication professionals and other stakeholders, with the formal induction of new members serving as the major highlight.
According to Ochili, the emphasis on professionalism, ethical conduct, responsibility and continuous professional development has particular relevance to RATTAWU, considering the Union’s representation of workers across broadcasting, theatre, arts, culture and related communication sectors.
He noted that the engagement reinforced the need for RATTAWU to strengthen its public image and strategic communication, professionally document and publicise its achievements and advocacy activities, maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct, and deepen its relationships with the media and other stakeholders.
He also identified capacity building for officers responsible for communication and public relations, as well as stronger collaboration with NIPR and other relevant professional bodies, as important areas for further attention.
Ochili described the NIPR induction ceremony as a “worthwhile and professionally enriching engagement,” stressing that credibility, professionalism, reputation, ethical conduct and effective communication remain essential to building public trust and advancing organisational objectives.
The RATTAWU representative further said the lessons from the engagement were relevant to the Union’s ongoing efforts to improve its public image, advocacy, stakeholder relations and visibility.
At the event, Ochili also met with the President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, FNIPR.
He expressed appreciation to the RATTAWU President, Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu, for the opportunity to represent the Union at the important professional engagement.
