This vital thoroughfare, long plagued by fatal accidents, severe traffic congestion, and economic setbacks, has undergone a remarkable transformation under President Tinubu’s stewardship. For over twenty-four years, the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway represented not only a logistical nightmare but also a dangerous deathtrap for Ndigbo. Today, it emerges as the “Best Easter Gift Ever to Ndigbo by President Tinubu.”

Ohanaeze Ndigbo recalls the earnest appeals of our people, whose impassioned pleas to previous administrations—those of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and the late Muhammadu Buhari—were met with neglect. The urgent calls for repair and reconstruction of this critical route, which had made travel across the region increasingly hazardous, were ignored despite clear electoral promises. This long-standing neglect underscores the historical challenges faced by Ndigbo.

The reopening of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, announced by the Federal Ministry of Works and set for 31st March 2026, has been met with overwhelming joy and gratitude by the Igbo people. President Tinubu is not merely rewriting the narrative for Ndigbo; he is driving an infrastructural revolution in the Southeast. The newly revitalized dual carriageway, stretching 107 kilometers per side, stands as a landmark project with the potential to transform regional connectivity and positively influence socio-economic development.

As the nation and Ndigbo extend accolades to President Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Nweze Umahi, Ohanaeze Ndigbo respectfully urges the Federal Government to allocate additional funds for the expedited completion of ongoing federal road projects in the Southeast. Priority projects include the Markudi–Nsukka–Nightmile–Enugu Expressway and the Calabar–Abakiliki–Benue–Abuja Super Highway.
