Ganduje signs PWDs bill into law, bans street begging

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has set up a committee for the evacuation of beggars from the streets, nooks and crannies of the state. Ganduje stated this while addressing journalists shortly after assenting the persons with disabilities bill into law on Tuesday. He explained that the law would pave the way for the inclusion and development of people living with disabilities in the state. See redesigned naira notes FG unveiled to general public

The Federal Government has unveiled the redesigned naira notes to the public. It was unveiled at the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari a few minutes ago. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele warned Nigerians against hoarding of the old notes, saying there is no going back on the January 31st 2023 deadline to completely render the old notes useless. The redesigned notes are in denomination of N1000, N500 and N200.

NBS reveals that 133 million Nigerians are poor

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has disclosed that 133 million Nigerians are multidimensionally poor. In its latest National Multidimensional Poverty Index Report launched on Thursday, the NBS said that 63 percent of Nigerians are poor due to a lack of access to health, education, and living standards, alongside unemployment and shocks. The MPI offers a multivariate form of poverty assessment, identifying deprivations across health, education, living standards, work, and shocks. Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari has performed poorly in governance, economic and political transformation, according to the BTI 2022 Country Report. The Bertelsmann Transformation Index (BTI) measures the development status and governance of political and economic transformation processes in developing and transition countries. Founded in 1977, the report is published biennially by Bertelsmann Stiftung, an independent establishment based in Gütersloh, Germany. More than 250 experts from leading academic institutions and civil society organizations worldwide assessed 137 nations.
