Independence: Sanwo-Olu releases 46 inmates from Lagos prisons

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the release of 46 inmates from various correctional facilities in the state. Sanwo-Olu’s action followed the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy. The governor also commuted the death sentences of six inmates to life imprisonment, said Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), Commissioner for Information. The official noted that the release and committal orders were in cognisance of Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day Celebration. Supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have commenced their rallies in major cities in the country. The LP candidate supporters known as ‘Obidients’ converged at strategic places in Lagos, Kaduna, Abia, Edo, amongst other states in Nigeria. Northeast: Army kills 36 terrorists, others in airstrikes, says DHQ

The Defense Headquarters says Operation Hadin Kadin troops killed more than 36 terrorists and several others in airstrikes in the northeast in the past two weeks.
