Mixed reactions, pool of tears, as Lagos govt auctions seized vehicles

Emotions were betrayed this week as the Lagos State government auctioned vehicles that were forfeited. At least 134 vehicles confiscated for various traffic offences were up for sale. DAILY POST reports that as the exercise progressed, several families were thrown into agony and tears, as they watched their means of livelihood being auctioned at a giveaway price. More touching was the case of a 49-year-old widow, Dorothy Dike and her son, Osinachi Ndukwe, who wept openly as they begged for a price reduction. Nigerian Army, EFCC agree to fight terrorism financing

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Army have agreed to tackle terrorism financing. EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, expressed the readiness of the body to partner with the Army on intelligence sharing and capacity building. Bawa made the pledge while addressing officers of the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State. The anti-graft stressed that modern warfare has gone beyond kinetics and the exchange of gunfire. ISWAP bury 26 terrorists killed in military bombardments in Borno

After sustained aerial bombardments and elimination of terrorists, surviving fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have buried 26 members in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, northeast Nigeria. The terrorists were eliminated on Sept 9, in a coordinated air strike by the Nigerian military on two camps of the ISWAP in Sigir and Yarwa Kuwa on the fringes of Lake Chad. Court postpones FG’s lawsuit against striking uni. professors

The National Industrial Tribunal of Nigeria (NICN), a Court laden with the responsibility for settling labor disputes on Monday, adjourned the lawsuit filed by the federal government challenging the ongoing strike of the Union of Academic Staff of Universities (ASUU). The judge, PI Hamman, adjourned the lawsuit until September 16 to receive further subpoenas. In Monday’s proceedings, the Socioeconomic Rights and Accountability Project (Serap), sought to join the lawsuit as an interested party. SERAP’s lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, said his client had filed a similar lawsuit asking the court to force the federal government to honor its 2009 agreement with the striking university…
