Three years ago, the people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency made a choice at the polls. Today, that choice has a visible record of legislative performance, constituency development, empowerment, and grassroots engagement.
At the National Assembly, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa has emerged as one of the active voices of the 10th House of Representatives, distinguishing himself through legislative interventions and advocacy on issues affecting his constituents.

Among his notable legislative contributions is the sponsorship of the Federal Medical Centre, Ohafia Bill, which is currently advancing through the House of Representatives. He also sponsored the Freight Forwarding Bill and moved critical motions addressing insecurity, gully erosion, and boundary disputes impacting communities within Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
Observers note that Hon. Osonwa has remained visible and vocal in the legislature, maintaining consistent engagement on issues brought before the House rather than fading into the background after inauguration.
Beyond Abuja, his representation has translated into tangible projects across the constituency.
One of the landmark achievements under his stewardship is the transformation of Ofali Agwu School, Amaekpu, into Abia State’s first Smart School. The institution now boasts computerised classrooms, reliable electricity supply, and a modern learning curriculum. The project is already being positioned as a model capable of influencing educational development across the state.
Educational infrastructure has also received significant attention. At Abia Community School, Ukwa Primary School Nkporo, and Abam High School, dilapidated classroom blocks were reconstructed and furnished, restoring conducive learning environments for pupils and students.
In addition, 200 students from the constituency were awarded full tertiary education scholarships. Beneficiaries emerged through merit-based examinations conducted across all wards of Arochukwu/Ohafia, reflecting a commitment to ensuring that educational opportunities are accessible to talented young people irrespective of their background.
The lawmaker’s intervention has equally extended to critical social amenities.
For residents of Umuye, Ihechiowa, a 24-year wait for access to clean water has finally come to an end following the provision of a functional water project. Similar interventions have been delivered through solar-powered boreholes installed in Ugwuakuma and Okon Aku communities.
Road infrastructure has not been left out. Construction works are progressing on the Mgbaga–Federal High Court Road in Ebem, while the Ibina Ihenta Road is also taking shape, improving accessibility and connectivity within the constituency.
Perhaps one of the most far-reaching interventions has been in the area of empowerment.
In what many regard as one of the largest empowerment programmes ever undertaken in the constituency, beneficiaries selected from more than 15,000 applicants across all wards received various empowerment items, including motorcycles, tricycle trucks, mini buses, sewing machines, refrigerators, generators, grinding machines, and other equipment designed to support small businesses and livelihoods.
The programme also featured the deployment of a grader and payloader to facilitate the opening of rural roads and improve access for farmers and agricultural communities.
This intervention came in addition to a broader 5,000-person empowerment initiative that provided agricultural grants, ICT training, laptops, certificates, and vocational tools to beneficiaries across the constituency.
Recognising the economic challenges facing many households, palliative support in the form of rice and other food items has also been distributed to communities across Arochukwu, Isu, Ututu, Abiriba, Abam, Ihechiowa, Nkporo, and Ohafia, ensuring that no section of the constituency is left behind during difficult times.
Stakeholders attribute many of these achievements to the collaborative working relationship between Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and other Abia legislators, whose combined efforts have helped move projects from planning stages to implementation.
Equally significant is the lawmaker’s continued engagement with constituents through visits to village squares, traditional palaces, town hall meetings, and market gatherings, allowing him to remain connected to the people he represents.
For many residents, the defining feature of Hon. Osonwa’s representation has been accessibility and visibility. His approach underscores a growing belief that effective representation is not carried out from a distance but among the people whose mandate one holds.
Three years on, supporters argue that the record speaks for itself — a blend of legislative action, infrastructural development, educational advancement, social intervention, and sustained grassroots presence that continues to shape the future of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
