Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), stated that President Bola Tinubu has his full respect and that he will never resort to personal abuse or insults against him or any other government official.
He made these remarks on Friday, 25 September 2026, during the 2026 All Nigeria Editors’ Conference held in Enugu. The event operated under the theme, “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive”.
Obi emphasized that political disagreements and opposition should focus entirely on policies, governance, and performance rather than descending into personal attacks.
He stated, “He’s the President of the country, he has all my respect,” while noting that he has never publicly called out President Tinubu disrespectfully.
Despite his stance against insults, Obi clarified that respect for public leaders must not prevent citizens or the media from rigorously questioning their decisions and holding them accountable.
