On Saturday, Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, was tragically murdered by unknown gunmen. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in Abeokuta’s Jide Jones area.
Adeyinka was shot at close range and brutally attacked. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with shops closing and tension gripping the community. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.
Adeyinka, a former youth leader and transport union worker, was aspiring to represent Ward 15 in the upcoming local government elections. The Ogun All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum condemned the killing, calling it senseless and horrific.
The forum demanded a thorough investigation and increased security measures to prevent further violence. However, the Ogun police command claimed unawareness of the situation.
