NDC senatorial candidate for Abia North in the 2027 general election, Rt. Hon. Uko Ndukwe Nkole, FNITP, Ph.D., has outlined key areas of focus for the senatorial district, with the restoration of electricity supply, completion of abandoned federal projects and migration of state civil servants into federal service including employment opportunities for our teeming unemployed youths listed among his priorities.
Nkole disclosed the agenda during a media chat with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, where he spoke on what he described as critical development challenges confronting Abia North.
According to Nkole restoring electricity supply across the senatorial district observed to be in perpetual darkness overtime would be a major priority, particularly in communities and Local Government Areas of Arochukwu,Ohafia,Bende,Isiukwuato and Umunneochi that, he said, have remained without regular power supply.
He opined that Abam ,Ohafia Areas witnessed power supply last when he was in office .
He also identified the completion of the long abandoned transmission sub stations dotting across the Abia North locality in Isiukwuato, Ohafia and Arochukwu as an important part of his proposed Power enhancement intervention, stressing the need to strengthen the district’s power infrastructure.
The former member of the House of Representatives further highlighted the completion of the Umuahia–Bende–OzuAbam–Ohafia–Arochukwu road project, Sections I and II, which he sponsored during his tenure in the National Assembly.
Nkole expressed concern over what he described as the abandonment of sections of the project following the expiration of his tenure in June 2023, while acknowledging intervention by the Abia State Government on parts of Section I, particularly towards the Ohafia–Arochukwu axis.
He reiterated his commitment to complete the 2nd phase reticulations project of the revamped Ohafia Water Scheme at Akanu Ohafia that has long been abandoned after its completion that some sections of the community were already enjoying the success.
Another area he listed was the proposed sponsorship of legislation or appropriate federal intervention to facilitate the transfer of willing Abia State civil servants into the federal civil service.
Beyond the media engagement, Nkole’s diary also featured extensive grassroots and traditional institution engagements in Abiriba.
He attended the Abiriba New Yam Festival organised for the traditional Igbara Ikoro Ndi across the 17 Obu’s in Abiriba, using the occasion to interact with community members and grassroots stakeholders in clusters.
He also engaged with members of the Ojigirndu Otutu Enyi group alongside Hon. Chukwu Eni, Chairman of the Abia North Youth Movement.
The NDC candidate subsequently visited his maternal compound, Ndi Uche Amanta, in Abiriba, further underscoring his continuing engagement with communities and traditional structures within the senatorial district.
Nkole also paid a traditional courtesy call on Chief Jackson Agbai, Esq., KUKUNDA Enachioken, whom he described as his landlord in OzuAbam in the character of KUKUNDA he gave Hon Nkole a premium treat.
The visit, according to Nkole, was marked by the traditional ruler’s customary hospitality and warm reception.
He was accompanied during the Abiriba engagements by Ambassador Okoro Okeke, NDC Abia North Zonal Chairman, and Comrade Obrain Iroh, NDC candidate for Ohafia North State Constituency.
The engagements form part of Nkole’s ongoing activities ahead of the 2027 elections, where he is seeking a return to the National Assembly as the NDC candidate for Abia North Senatorial District.
His senatorial bid is coming under the wider NDC 2027 presidential project led by Peter Obi, the party’s Presidential Flag Bearer.
For Nkole, the focus of the campaign remains centred on reconnecting Abia North with federal representation while pushing issues around infrastructure, electricity, employment opportunities and grassroots development to the centre of the senatorial contest.
