In a notable development within the Abia North political landscape, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, on August 16, 2025, received the immediate past Deputy Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, on a courtesy visit at his country home in Amaekpu Ohafia.
This visit comes just barely two weeks after Sir Ude Oko Chukwu formally resigned from his political party, the defunct PDP —a decision he made official in a letter dated August 5, 2025, addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ndi Elu Ward, Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area.

During the visit, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu emphasized the importance of aligning with the current leadership of the state, noting that his decision was driven by the need to promote the collective interests of Ohafia, Abia North, and Abia State at large. He was accompanied by prominent political leaders from Nkporo, Ohafia LGA, signifying a broader consensus and support within his immediate political base.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor Emetu warmly welcomed his predecessor and appreciated the visit as a timely and strategic gesture. He noted that as political dynamics continue to evolve, it is encouraging to see leaders with experience and capacity choosing to collaborate with the current administration. He urged the visiting delegation to continue supporting the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR in his mission to transform Abia for the better.
The visit by Sir Ude Oko Chukwu not only symbolizes statesmanship but may also mark the beginning of new alignments within Abia’s political terrain. At a time when the state is prioritizing unity and development, such a high-profile meeting sends a strong message of cooperation and forward-thinking. It underscores the growing support for the current administration and reflects a collective commitment to the progress and stability of Abia State.
