A public analyst and political commentator has responded to recent comments made by the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu. Kalu asserted that the rapid development occurring in Abia State under Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, should be credited to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has allocated significant funds for these projects.
In a reaction posted on Facebook, Udumeze Ukwu remarked, “Considering the widespread demolitions and destruction of Igbo properties in Lagos, Hon. Ben Kalu has not deemed it necessary to address the issue in the House, apparently wanting to maintain a favorable relationship with Tinubu.”

Ukwu further questioned, “Is Hon. Ben Kalu not aware that the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, which has been converted into a market, was acquired by Igbo traders in 1995 from the federal government under the late General Sani Abacha? Lagos State has no authority to demolish this market under any circumstances—the power lies solely with the federal government.”
He continued, “It is fundamentally wrong for Lagos State to destroy a market over which it has no jurisdiction. Yet, Hon. Kalu remains silent on this matter in the House, which deeply impacts Igbo traders. Instead, he appears more interested in currying favor with Tinubu.”
OHAFIATV recalls that Hon. Ben Kalu urged the Governor of Abia State to publicly commend Tinubu for the substantial allocations the state is receiving for various projects. This request was made during the recent commissioning of completed projects by the President in Abia State.
The commentary further asserts, “Hon. Kalu fails to recognize that these allocations are not gifts from Tinubu; they are the state’s constitutional entitlements. By seeking praise for Tinubu, he misrepresents the situation.”
“While Tinubu removed fuel subsidies, which led to increased state allocations, he also devalued the Naira from N400 to $1 to N1,500 to $1, effectively diminishing the impact of these allocations. Why hasn’t Hon. Ben Kalu asked the Governor to hold Tinubu accountable for the Naira’s devaluation, which has caused hardship for the people?”
The opinion concludes, “It is truly unfortunate that those we elect to represent us seem to prioritize their personal interests. I cannot understand why any of them would seek accolades for Tinubu without holding him responsible for the struggles the people are enduring.”
