Abia State |October 5, 2025 — The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, on 2025 World Teacher’s Day, paid glowing tribute to teachers across Nigeria and beyond, describing them as the foundation of national development and custodians of knowledge.

In a statement released on Sunday, Hon. Aguocha acknowledged the sacrifices, dedication, and resilience of teachers who continue to shape minds and build futures despite the challenges facing the education sector.
He noted that no nation can rise above the quality of its teachers, emphasizing that investing in teachers is investing in the nation’s future.
“Today, we celebrate the men and women who dedicate their lives to nurturing minds and shaping destinies. Teachers are not just professionals; they are nation builders, mentors, and the torchbearers of enlightenment,” Hon. Aguocha stated.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education within his constituency, highlighting his ongoing educational support initiatives, including scholarships, provision of learning materials, and advocacy for improved school infrastructure. According to him, empowering teachers through training and motivation remains a top priority in achieving sustainable educational growth.
“In Ikwuano and Umuahia, our focus is not only on students but also on those who guide them. We will continue to support policies and programs that improve teacher welfare, professional development, and access to modern teaching tools. A well-trained and well-motivated teacher is the best investment we can make for our children,” Aguocha added.
Hon. Aguocha also commended the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, for his visionary leadership and commitment to the education sector, particularly his efforts in improving teachers’ welfare. He lauded the governor for the recent recruitment of 5,000 new teachers into the state’s school system and for ensuring the prompt and regular payment of teachers’ salaries, which he described as a clear demonstration of responsible governance and respect for the teaching profession.
“This gesture has restored confidence, boosted morale, and improved productivity among our educators,” Aguocha remarked.
Hon. Aguocha also called on all levels of government to prioritize teachers’ welfare, noting that better remuneration, continuous capacity building, and conducive working environments are essential to restoring the dignity of the teaching profession.
“Our teachers deserve more than just our applause; they deserve fair compensation, respect, and the right tools to succeed. When we empower teachers, we empower the future of Nigeria,” he said.
He commended the theme of this year’s World Teachers’ Day, which underscores the importance of valuing, supporting, and empowering teachers for effective learning. Hon. Aguocha urged all stakeholders; government, private sector, and communities, to work together in creating a more inclusive and innovative educational environment that allows teachers to thrive.
Concluding his message, Hon. Aguocha extended heartfelt appreciation to every teacher across his constituency and the nation, describing them as “unsung heroes who continue to light the path toward a brighter and more enlightened society.”
