Sir Chikwe Udensi, a renowned security consultant, has raised the alarm about Nigeria’s escalating security challenges, warning that the country’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the United States is a wake-up call for the government to take immediate action.
Speaking on African Independent Television (AIT), Udensi emphasised that the CPC designation is not just a label, but a precursor to potential economic sanctions, reduced loans, and aid, which could cripple the nation’s economy. He clarified that this does not necessarily mean the U.S. will intervene militarily in Nigeria; rather, it is a call for the government to prioritise the security of its citizens.

Udensi lamented that Nigerians are dying in significant numbers, and no responsible government should trivialise this situation or engage in political gamesmanship. He urged the government to equip security agencies with advanced technology, provide proper training, retain personnel, and improve the welfare of security personnel to boost morale.
His call for action comes amid growing violence in various regions, including recent attacks on farming communities in Benue and Plateau States. Udensi emphasised that Nigeria’s security situation requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders and a willingness to collaborate with the U.S. and other international partners to find a lasting solution.
Udensi’s recommendations are clear: the government must adopt a proactive stance, providing security agencies with necessary resources, addressing the root causes of conflict, and ensuring accountability for those responsible for violence. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, highlighting the need for concrete measures to tackle these security challenges.
As Nigeria approaches a potential security crisis, it is imperative for the government to take immediate action to protect its citizens. The situation demands a comprehensive approach, and the time for action is now.
