Nigeria’s security situation is being severely impacted by the misplaced priorities of the Federal and South East state governments, according to Sir Chikwe Udensi, Interpol Systems Consultant and renowned security expert. In an exclusive interview on FLO FM, Udensi expressed his concerns over the allocation of billions of naira to political overheads and luxury spending, while critical sectors such as security, education, and healthcare are underfunded.

Udensi, who is also the Vice President of the International Security Association in Zurich, emphasized that the country should be prioritizing national emergencies over political luxury, especially given the current security challenges. He specifically pointed to some South East governors, accusing them of misusing state allocations on personal comfort, extravagant lifestyles, and political patronage, rather than protecting lives and property.

The security expert is calling on the Federal Government to implement a coordinated and disciplined budgeting framework, with a focus on investing in security infrastructure. “The government must match its words with action. A nation under siege cannot afford to treat security issues with levity,” he warned.

Udensi also stressed the need for greater accountability and transparency in the use of public funds, stating that the effectiveness of governance is measured by how well leaders respond to the needs of their people. His comments come as Nigerians are increasingly expressing concern over the rising insecurity in the country, particularly in the South East, where abductions, banditry, and politically motivated violence have increased in recent months.
