The Abia Online Media Publishers (OMPAN) is set to host its Annual General Meeting, AGM, focusing on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on media and journalism.
The event, scheduled for December 12, 2025, at the Umuahia North Local Government Area Multipurpose Hall, aims to examine the effects of AI on media practice.
Comrade Ugochukwu Nwankwo, Chairman of the planning committee and former Chairman of the association, stated that the theme was chosen to address the current challenges faced by media practitioners, who are increasingly utilizing AI in their work. “The theme was carefully chosen to align with the realities of media practitioners at the moment, where most are neck deep in the use of AI,” he said.
Chief Promise Uzoma Okoro, current Chairman of OMPAN, revealed that the event will feature a training session for members, intending members, and the general public, making it a unique experience. “This year’s training will be unique because it will come with a training session for both members, intending members, and the general public,” he said.
The Guest Lecturer, Dr. Pastra Arinze Etie, a renowned IT Specialist and Practitioner, will share insights on AI’s impact on media and journalism. The event will be chaired by Hon Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano Umuahia Federal Constituency.
