Recent developments indicate a sustained, coordinated, and deliberate attempt by certain political actors to malign the person and office of Dr. Alex Otti, the Executive Governor of Abia State. These attacks, widely viewed as politically motivated, appear designed to distract the governor from his unwavering commitment to delivering transparent, accountable, and people-centered governance to the citizens of Abia State.

Governor Otti’s record of disciplined leadership and administrative focus continues to stand in sharp contrast to the actions of some unscrupulous elements who, driven by desperation to reclaim power against the clearly expressed will of the people, have resorted to public smear campaigns. In doing so, they only succeed in exposing their own recklessness and history of abuse of public trust, all in pursuit of political relevance ahead of 2027.

Of particular concern is the unwarranted interference of Dr. Bashir Lamido, leader of the Arewa Summit International and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the political affairs of Abia State. His allegations of double-dealing and insincerity against Governor Otti raise serious questions about his motives and the propriety of meddling in the internal governance of a state where he holds no mandate. Dr. Lamido has become known for openly canvassing political leaders to join the APC in a bid to rehabilitate the party’s declining public image, despite widespread dissatisfaction with its leadership record and diminishing public confidence nationwide.

Rather than focusing on internal reforms and rebuilding credibility for his party before Nigerians, Dr. Lamido has chosen to engage in public commentary that borders on abuse and personal attacks against a sitting governor widely acknowledged for integrity and performance. In this regard, he is challenged to subject his own popularity to democratic testing by contesting even a House of Assembly seat in his state, where the outcome would more accurately reflect his standing with the electorate.

It is not improbable that these outbursts stem from failed attempts to lure Governor Otti into the APC in order to leverage his widespread acceptance among the people of Abia State. Having been rebuffed, these efforts appear to have degenerated into open hostility. Be that as it may, it must be clearly stated that no amount of political provocation or external pressure can distract Governor Otti from his primary responsibility of delivering democratic dividends to his people. His administration remains firmly on course, and his re-election prospects in 2027 remain strong and undeterred.

Ultimately, the power to choose leadership in Abia State rests solely with the electorate through the ballot, not with individuals or groups seeking to manipulate public opinion or destabilize democratic processes. Dr. Alex Otti continues to enjoy the confidence of the Abia people, and attempts to mislead the public through unfounded rhetoric are bound to fail. History has shown that no force can stop a change whose time has come, and Dr. Otti remains the positive change that the people of Abia State desire and deserve.
