OHANAEZE NDIGBO PRESS RELEASE: INVESTIGATIONS REVEAL SPONSORED BLACKMAIL; OHANAEZE CLEARS UMAHI OF OHIRI’S ALLEGATIONS

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the premier socio-cultural body representing the Igbo people, categorically rejects and condemns the recent baseless allegations made against the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, by one Tracynither Nicholas Ohiri. After a comprehensive and thorough investigation into the matter, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has firmly concluded that these accusations are part of a politically motivated campaign of blackmail, orchestrated by a malicious cabal with the sole intent of tarnishing the reputation of the Minister and diverting his attention from his critical responsibilities.

We regard this as a deliberate attempt to exploit Ms. Ohiri as a pawn in a broader political scheme aimed at undermining a highly respected Igbo leader and one of Nigeria’s most effective ministers in the current administration.

Our stance is built upon irrefutable, concrete evidence. When Ms. Ohiri’s allegations first surfaced in 2025, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, guided by its commitment to truth, reconciliation, and the welfare of the Igbo people, initiated a rigorous independent investigation into the claims. In 2023, a series of formal invitations were extended to Ms. Ohiri, requesting that she provide verifiable documentation, including receipts, contracts, and other relevant evidence to substantiate her allegations concerning unpaid financial obligations related to the supply of electoral materials during Senator Umahi’s gubernatorial campaign in 2015.

Unfortunately, Ms. Ohiri repeatedly failed to respond or cooperate with these requests, despite multiple assurances of a fair and transparent process. Her deliberate refusal to provide the requested documentation speaks volumes, and strongly suggests that there is no factual basis for her claims. Furthermore, Ohanaeze Ndigbo made genuine efforts to resolve the matter amicably through traditional Igbo methods of conflict resolution. Regrettably, Ms. Ohiri ignored these peaceful avenues and instead chose to peddle unfounded allegations through politically motivated media channels, clearly intending to smear the Minister’s name and gain public sympathy.

This orchestrated campaign of misinformation is designed to harass Senator Umahi, destabilize his reputation, and exploit the media for politically partisan goals. The Nigerian Police are currently conducting their own investigation into the matter, but based on our independent findings, Ohanaeze Ndigbo stands resolute in affirming that these allegations are entirely unfounded and represent a malicious attempt to damage the character of a distinguished public servant.

In light of these findings, Ohanaeze Ndigbo unreservedly clears Senator Dave Umahi of any wrongdoing concerning Ms. Ohiri’s claims. We urge the Honourable Minister to disregard these baseless distractions and remain focused on his critical mandate: the enhancement of Nigeria’s road infrastructure for the benefit of all citizens. His dedication to this national cause is indisputable, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo stands unwaveringly behind him in his pursuit of a better, more connected Nigeria.
