The Abia Central Senatorial District stands as a mosaic of six local government areas of Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Osisioma, Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South, each contributing uniquely to the political and socio-economic development of the zone. Over the years, the senatorial seat has rotated, either by design or circumstance, among most of these constituent parts. However, a closer look at the historical pattern of representation reveals a glaring imbalance that can no longer be ignored.
Ikwuano currently holds the seat through Senator Austin Akobundu. Umuahia North has had its turn with Senator T. A. Orji, while Umuahia South once produced Senator Chris Adighije. Osisioma is not left out, having produced Senator Nkechi Nwaogu. Similarly, Isiala Ngwa South has had the privilege of representation through distinguished figures such as Senators Bob Nwanunu and Darlington Nwokocha.

Yet, amid this cycle of representation, one local government remains conspicuously excluded – Isiala Ngwa North. This persistent omission raises a fundamental question of fairness. In a democratic setting where inclusion, balance, and justice are core values, it is only right that every constituent part of a senatorial district is given a sense of belonging through equitable representation. Denying Isiala Ngwa North this opportunity, despite its contributions and political relevance, undermines the very principles of unity and fairness that democracy upholds.
It is on this moral and political foundation that Bishop Prof. Emeka Nwankpa has raised a strong and timely call for equity. His position is not merely political; it is rooted in justice, fairness, and the need to foster inclusiveness within Abia Central. According to him, the time has come to correct this long-standing imbalance by allowing Isiala Ngwa North to produce the next senator.
Such a move would not only promote equity but also strengthen the bond of unity among the six LGAs. It would send a clear message that Abia Central is committed to fairness, where no community is sidelined and every voice matters. More importantly, it would inspire a renewed sense of participation and trust in the democratic process among the people of Isiala Ngwa North.
As the 2027 political horizon gradually comes into view, stakeholders, political leaders, and the electorate must reflect deeply on this reality. Equity is not a favour; it is a right. And in the interest of justice, balance, and sustainable political harmony, Isiala Ngwa North deserves its rightful place in the senatorial history of Abia Central.
This call by Bishop Prof. Emeka Nwankpa is, therefore, not just a political appeal, it is a clarion call for justice. It is not about personal political interest, but in the interest of collective fairness and equity.
